What does it mean to be healthy? Does it mean being within the normal range of blood pressure and blood sugar levels? Does it mean having a certain body mass index? Does it mean being happy and content with life?
While there are definite scientific measures of good health, there are also many variables that are not easily quantifiable.
Being healthy means feeling well enough to carry out our daily tasks without feeling pain or discomfort. It also means having good emotional and mental health so that you can go about your day without feeling anxious or overwhelmed on a regular basis.
Every component of good health requires work. We need to exercise to keep us strong and mobile, we need to eat well to fuel our body and keep it working smoothly, and we need to focus on building and sustaining habits that make us feel happy and at peace with ourselves. While the components may sound simple enough, they do require effort. More than that, they require time – time to figure out which strategies work best for you and your lifestyle. It is usually through trial and error that we figure out what activities best suit our body, what foods best fuel us, and the hardest part, what type of surroundings make us feel most at peace and stress-free. Finding that winning combination is quite an accomplishment … and until you do find it, keep on trying!
